Key West - Barry Cuda and the Green Parrot Bar

Barry Cuda was supposed to be moving to Sicily from plans we heard last time we were in Key West but something must have fell through. He’s now playing on Sunday afternoons at the Green Parrot Bar. We wanted to see him play so we hopped on the Duval free bus and was there by 2:00 pm.

To say the place was packed would be an understatement. The bar is not a big place but it is open to the outside, there’s no air conditioning except for several big fans. All the chairs were taken and I looked around until I saw one free but it wasn’t - but the guy allowed Ann to sit for a while to listen to Barry and his band. 

As if that wasn’t enough, everyone here wanted to come inside too!

As if that wasn’t enough people, there was a march honoring past performers that came down Duval street and ended at the Green Parrot around 3:00. Naturally, everyone from the march wanted to come into the bar too! There was no room but they came anyway.

In retrospect, it was not a wise decision to be in such crowded conditions with the prevalence of Covid and whatever else was circulating at the time. Nevertheless, what’s done is done and we’ll see what happens. I don’t think we will be going back to listen to Barry until the crowds really thin out.
