Titusville - at a dock

Another early morning start - we’ve had more than a few this trip north

We retired to bed last night thinking that Sunday would not be a good day to go north due to forecast storms with rain all morning. When I got up at 5:30 am and looked at the forecast, it had changed completely. Now it said no rain and calm winds, perfect for a trip northward.

Titusville, like all the marinas we’ve seen this trip, is packed

With the new forecast in hand, I took Hoolie out in the dark and got Fleetwing ready to depart at first light. It was 62 NM to Titusville, about 9 hours for us at our cruising speed. The winds were as predicted by the HRRR model in Aqua Map as to direction and speed, good to know for future planning.

The palm trees always find a way to survive, bend but don’t break

Since it was a Sunday, the NASA Causeway bridge was opening on demand without the 3:30 to 5:00 period of no openings. We approached the bridge and asked for an opening but the bridge operator saw another boat on the horizon (it was so far away that we didn’t even see it) and told us to wait, groan. The bridge operator never contacted the boat to see if he actually wanted to pass through the bridge and after 15 minutes of us waiting, the other boat wandered off to the east, apparently to anchor out. So our wait was all for nothing and the bridge operator, grudgingly, opened the bridge for us. He didn’t apologize for his error.

We are in slip A17 and have asked to see if we could stay a week. The weather is fine for Monday but after that, it takes a turn for the worse with rain and storms Tuesday through Thursday followed by 15 to 25 kts winds out of the north on Friday - not good days for traveling north! If we can’t get a slip in Titusville, we’ll try Daytona. Hopefully. Someone will take us in.
