RE Mayo - at a dock

She is better than the photo! Been there for years.

The winds have finally abated! We motor south out of Dowry Creek Marina and headed for RE Mayo. The docks here are not free but they are pretty close to free at only $0.40/ft. That comes with one 30 amp electric to share with whoever turns up and free WiFi. There are no restrooms, no showers, just a dock. The dock has been refurbished but it's still not up to the standards of a real marina. It's used by 60+ shrimp boats and they care for it to be sturdy, not pretty.

Good selection of frozen shrip!

The real attraction other than the low rate per foot is the supply of frozen seafood at very reasonable prices. We always stock up on the locally caught shrimp, already frozen for the freezer - we buy a supply. We may supplement that with some scallops too. There are surprisingly free places on the ICW to buy seafood. The ones that come to mind are here, Surf City but it's only a dock for buying seafood, not overnight, Independent Seafood in Georgetown, and the Raw Bar at Key West. There may be others but we haven't found them.

Flounder too

We'll be here overnight and then head across the Neuse River for Homer Smith Marina in Beauford for two days. We need to provision for the rest of the trip south and test the dinghy motor which we haven't started yet. We ran it dry of fuel before we left but you never know about these things.

They have a good selection for frozen fish
