Alligator River Marina - still here!

More boats seeking refuge from the strong winds

The winds topped out at 35 kts today when we finally turned on the wind meter. I suspect it was higher during the wild night we had. Even here at 8:00, it's still blowing around 20 kts. We're hoping for a decrease to the 15 to 20 range for tomorrow morning in which case we'll head south. I wouldn't go north in this wind but southward can be done in this north wind.

We are sitting fine. There's zero wave action in the marina.

Fleetwing is still heeling over with the push of the wind hitting her broadside against the fixed dock. Our fenders are working but squeaking at times but everything else is secure. We had six more boats come in today and I took a video of one as it entered the marina.

The approach to the entrances forces you to go broadside to the north wind and waves which causes much swinging back and forth. You can watch the video for an example of what to expect in high winds here.

We figure that Monday will be a good day to leave even though the winds will still be in the high teens. The rain has left and with the clear weather, we're headed for Dowry Creek Marina and a fixed dock. We are hoping to do a wash and refill our propane tank. Wish us luck on getting off the fixed dock in these high winds!
