Titusville - Boats that come ashore

A sad picture

The anchorage area at Titusville is wide open. The moorings are secure but would be very bouncy in high winds. During a major storm, there’s a history of boats coming ashore and the question always arises as to the cause. I walked the shore and took pictures of the latest guests that wanted to visit the land.

You can see the frayed line - the boat should have had heavier lines and more of them

You can see the photos that there are no pendants attached. In one case, a frayed line is clearly visible that had been supplied by the boater to secure his boat. The problem arises when a boater can’t accept that the problem with running to land is his own fault - it’s much easier on the psych to blame someone else - anything but yourself.

I couldn’t see the lines but there’s no pendant from a mooring floating nearby

In all the photos I took, I never saw a boat still fastened to a pendant. In some cases, the boat may have been anchored and not moored but that still puts the responsibly on the captain. Fleetwing was in the marina when hurricane Nicole came through and it was the worst storm we had ever been through. I can understand how boats could have broken free - just don’t blame the moorings.
