Key West - “Bad Monkey”

He was set up to film across the fairway, aimed near the Raw Bar

Most of the waterfront in Key West Bight has been taken up in the filming of a 10 part Apple TV series based on a book by Carl Hiaasen, “Bad Monkey”. You’ve seen some of the hardware they’ve rented such as a 100 ft crane just so they can have rain showers on cue. They have a host of other, smaller cranes, barges, tons of supporting trucks and a host of people. No wonder filming like this costs millions.

Something is happening by the filming barge. Displaced boats have been moved next to us.

I took Hoolie out for his evening walk and yet again, the film crew was out doing their thing, at night. The series stars Vince Vaughn (never heard of him, but apparently, he’s famous) in the lead role and they have an Emmy winning director, Bill Lawrence. There was a huge crowd watching the preparations for the filming - with Vince walking around, I guess tracing the route he was going to take for the role. It involved going through the Raw Bar restaurant.

St Patrick’s Day is next week and Key West will celebrate that too, in style!

Hoolie and I didn’t wait around, too many people. It will be something for the kids to see while they’re here. They have a sign posted that if you’re in the area, you might be filmed as part of the crowd - and that if you won’t want that, then don’t be around during filming.

Saturday the kids arrive for their spring break on the 5:00 pm flight from Washington. They will catch a bus to the Bight and we plan on having Cuban sandwiches from the Cuban Coffee Queen for dinner. I think our lives are about to change for the next week.
