Key West - Apple TV is filming a series here - D-2

What is that contraption?? Why it’s a rain shower maker!

The news today was the film crew. Half the parking lot by the docks were taken up by production crew trucks, complete with a food truck. This is not a low budget film as you can see form the photos. That crane is worth a few pennies a day to rent! Look at the video to see the shower maker in action!

When we walked by, we could not figure out what it was doing. It hoisted a large frame that didn’t seem to have any purpose. Then we saw hoses on the side and what looked like nozzles laid out in a rectangular pattern attached to the top of the crane. The puzzle was answered later in the day when they created a rain shower. The water poured! A regular gully washer. I didn’t see anyone filming at the time, it must have been to exercise the equipment.

They also had a barge for filming from the water

In addition to the large crane, they had several smaller cranes with baskets for adjusting things at a great height - perhaps for filming too. They also had a barge with a camera mounted for water scenes. If you want to find out more about the details of what they are filming, see Apple TV to film series in Key West. It’s based on the 2013 Carl Hiaasen novel “Bad Monkey.” and will run 10 episodes. If you’re in Key West at the time, you may be included in some of the background shots.

You might have trouble getting a dock at Key West Bight Marina -
All the docks are rented out to the filming company (on hold for moved boats)

Apple TV is not the only movie production in Key West. MTV is also around this week filming spring breakers. And there’s another company filming something else, not sure what but they were visible too around the town.

In short there’s a lot of stuff happening the next two weeks. The docks across the fairway are all empty and we thought it was because of the fuel prices or high prices in general for dockage. Not so, the docks were all rented out to the Apple TV filming company so they could have boats moved off docks they wanted to use for their production. The marina is definitely not losing money on this deal.
