This is how you do laundry at Homer Smith. The laundry room is next door. |
Lots of odds and ends to tie up before we continued our trek south. One requirement was laundry. In most marinas you have a small or non-existent waiting room for your laundry cycle to end. At Homer Smith, not only do you have three wasters and dryers to choose from (quarters not needed!) but a luxurious Captain’s room next door with Lazy Boy reclining sofas to rest your weary bones. If you want, you can brew a cup of coffee while you wait at no charge.

Meanwhile, I shopped for some small items at the local Lowes store and found that they had already set out all their Christmas decorations complete with two distinct Santas.Everything is displayed with artificial trees and all sorts of lights. For me, it’s a little early but then I’m an “after Thanksgiving” type of guy which is pretty old hat.

If you need a one way rental over the holidays from Florida to points north, be aware that neither Enterprise or Hertz is offering a one way option this year, so far. You can rent a car for a round trip but not for a one way drop off. This is the first year I’ve encountered that limitation. We’ve already rented a car and driven home for the holidays. Now the only option is to rent a car for two months of our holiday vacation and return it to the same Florida location - but boy has that turned out to be expensive!! For Enterprise, it’s up to $3600 for a small SUV like a Nissan Rogue. That’s just too much.
And not just any flag - but one flown over the Pentagon! |
So we started looking for alternatives and before trying the truck rental options, we contacted friends in Deltaville and found a person that would drive our car south for a fee and hop a plane back north. For us, it was much less expensive. I could see this becoming a thriving business venture.
On Saturday, we’re off to Harbor Village, just south of Surf City. It’s a long day but the weather is supposed to be fair with full sun, not too bad.
