We had z very short day, only 21 NM from Dowry Creek to the RE Mayo docks. Their main business is seafood but they let cruisers dock at a very reasonable rate of $0.40/ft. You get free WiFi but power is problematic. It’s good for 20 amps but anything more than that will trip the circuit breaker inside the store. If it happens before 5:00 pm, then it can be reset by them but after that, it’s wait until opening the next day. It’s enough for one boat if they are careful but with two boats drawing off the same power buss, it usually doesn’t work - but then it’s only $0.40/ft.
Here’s three of the four shrimp boats docked at Re Mayo - not making money docked |
We bought the fresh shrimp with heads this time, 2 lbs. Ann prepared them tonight - nothing like fresh shrimp! There were no surprises on the way down, the Bob423 track is fine. You couldn’t ask for a better traveling day with calm winds and full sun.
On Wednesday, we’re off for Homer Smith to prepare for my presentations there on Oct 13. They’ve rented a tent for the affair which’s starts at 3:00 with How to Use Bob423 Tracks, followed by a buffet at 5:00 and ICW Status of Shoaling (and how to avoid) at 7:00, should be a fun day. So far, we have about 50 signed up for the events.
Wednesday is predicted to be another calm day (I’m not complaining!) so crossing the Neuse should be fine. We’ll arrive at Homer Smith around 3:00 I imagine, in time to see the tent being set up.
