That’s us on the left part of the photo and what’s left of Ian is on the right, the swirl with a blue center |
The remnants of Ian moved across us yesterday and now we’re getting the back side of the storm. It’s predicted to give us 30 kts of wind steady with gusts to 40 kts for the next two days. So far, it’s living up to its promise. It doesn’t look like we’ll be able to launch Fleetwing anytime soon. The video below shows the waves crashing on shore at a house nearby.
On the bright side, we moved back into the Waterway Guide cottage for the next two days instead of the cramped motel. We can now cook our own food instead of eating out everyday. Our entertainment is sitting out on the porch and watching the waves crash against the rocks.
Our boat is secure, no problem there - we just can launch it yet. The current plan is to launch Fleetwing on Tuesday afternoon and find a calm spot at a local marina on Wednesday and head south the next day, a Thursday. Ian is putting a real crimp in our plans but we’ll keep at it. Eventually, we plan on reaching Key West in January.

Yes, I remember. We plan on going directly from Deltaville to Norfolk so maybe we’ll see you farther down the line.
