Free dock by Great Bridge - We enjoy a concert and food trucks!

The famous Southern Railway bridge #7 - in a beautiful open position

The trip through Norfolk was uneventful, just the way we like it. The two railways bridges before the Gilmerton bridge we up and Gilmerton was operating as per their normal schedule, opening on demand. Matt, the bridge tender who has been so helpful in giving us the bridge and lock status from alerts he received, was not there. I think he works a shift starting at 4:00 pm.

Sarah handled the aft lines. A helper was in attendance, unlike last year

We arrived in plenty of time (11:30 am) to make the lock by Great Bridge but they had some sort of problem and had already closed the locks so we lost an hour there. Then it was on to the free dock just south of Great Bridge by the park. There was plenty of room and to our surprise, Wednesday night was concert night. It's an event they have throughout the summer and we happened to catch the last one this year.

Cooks night off - dinner from the food trucks

An added attraction was the food trucks. We had a crab sandwich and we bought some kettle corn for good measure. It was "cooks night off" on Fleetwing.

Delicious - it's always better when somebody else cooks the meal - note where Hoolie is...

We will be at Coinjock on Wednesday evening and hopefully will set out to cross the Albemarle on Friday morning. Meanwhile, we'll certainly have a prime rib dinner, can't pass that up!
