Last Day at Solomons Island

Ann's Pastel During the Storm
The wind finally relented this late this afternoon but until then we had a steady 20 kts with higher gusts. We found out this morning that we had 12.5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours! I emptied the dink twice, both times when the water threatened to overflow the sides of the dink! With the fenders tied to the pilings, we made out okay during the high winds. No matter what the boat did, the piling could do no damage with the fenders tied to it. During the storm, Ann took advantage of the downtime to do a pastel.

We took advantage of the good weather to use the bicycles provided free by the marina to explore the town, about a mile away. We reprovisioned at a pretty good supermarket and bought tuna at the local fish market. There is also a WestMarine store in town for odds and ends. We discovered that the ocean racers we saw in Atlantic City were going to race at Solomons Island this coming Sunday. Evidently they are on a circuit with a stop at Solomons.

We’ll head for Mill Creek Saturday morning, about 40 miles south. Not much wind is predicted but that’s a good thing given all the high winds we’ve had recently. We are sure looking forward to getting into the ICW.
